In the beginning… seems like the best way to start this month, blog, and theme. In the beginning. “At the start” just doesn’t resonate the same does it? Nor would I imagine, “When it began…” would have the same prolific ring to your ear as those three little words, “In the beginning.” There are so many ways for the rest of the sentence, let alone a paragraph, to go once the words “In the beginning” have been cast. The beginning of what? Do we know how it ended? In this particular instance it’s the beginning of today’s blog.
In the beginning there was Mom, and boy-oh-boy am I grateful. Let’s face it, if we just look at history since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “Mom” has been there. Dad was doing his duty, but that is a topic of gratitude for a later date. When I look at portrait depictions of the signing of the hallowed document that promulgates to the world the independence of a nation called, The United States of America, I see men in those images. I presume these men had children and wives. Seems the only time men fight is when one man messes with another man’s ability to provide, protect, or procure the affections of a woman, in many cases, someone’s mom. Men don’t fight with women. And you certainly don’t mess with Mom. Mom will tear you a new asshole if you mess with her or her babies. Men are more swift to physically harm and fight you if you were to insult their mom than for any other reason, but don’t mess with their money either. Why? Because Mom is special. My Mom. Your Mom. His Mom. Her Mom. Their Mom. Our Mom. I have gratitude for you all in doing your best as a Mom. I hope you’re grateful for a Mom in your life and forgiven those with shitty kids. Stop your greedy bullshit world leaders. Unless you were raised in a science lab in the last two hundred years you have a Mom. A woman who carried you to term. I don’t know why you kids make your Mom look bad. Stop it. Make your Mom proud. Got a job? Do it right. Got a girl? Treat her right. Show the world that your Mom raised you right. I have a Mom and I’m grateful. Now go show your Mom some gratitude. It will probably make both of your day. Bet ya didn’t think I was going there when I started with “In the beginning.”
