Oil painting by Johannes Voorhout, “Allegory on Friendship” (1674), one of the only known depictions of composer Dietrich Buxtehude.
I felt like sharing this today because of the importance of mentors, friendship, and the valuable influences they possess. For instance, the fellow leading the portrayed Baroque jam session, Buxtehude, strongly influenced up and coming composers in his day, including a couple lads named Handel and Bach. It would also stand to reason that Buxtehude is also the influence for all 1980’s bands with bitchen’ big hair. A solid friend and mentor indeed.
