February Passionary – Day 22

Incredible how the timing of the convergence of multiple passions can capture a singularly magic moment. During the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY the United States hockey team defeated the Soviet Union in what is remembered as the “Miracle on Ice.” Just over two decades later the stars aligned for a truly magical moment when the passion of a film maker greenlit the movie version of that game and the events leading up to its remarkable finish. Cast as the fiery coach Herb Brooks was the passion incarnate actor, Kurt Russell. His hair in the movie is magic and will be remembered long after people ask, “What’s hockey?”
